Mattias Ekstrom: the call of Eau Rouge
One of the leading figures of the World Rallycross Championship is going to make his return to the Spa-Francorchamps track during the Spa World Rallycross of Benelux days this 11 & 12 May.
Mattias Ekstrom could not resist the call of Eau Rouge: “While looking at the Abu Dhabi event from the comfort of my sofa, I found the idea of racing once again and attacking Eau Rouge at 200 km/hrwas very tempting”, the man with 10 victories in the World RX admitted. “I asked Joel (Christoffersson, owner of JC Raceteknik), if he was interested in my coming along with my old 2016 world champion car. If that hadn’t been the case, I might not be making a return”.
Nathalie Maillet, the Circuit CEO points out: "This is excellent news for the Spa World Rallycross of Benelux, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps but above all for the fans! Proof of just how attractive our track is. We are, of course, delighted he has chosen the Spa-Francorchamps leg and especially, as he has indicated, that he'll be there intending to win. That certainly adds to the appeal of this 3rd round of the Championship which has already promised to be a battle royal.
Mattias Ekström will be there in an Audi A1 Supercar in the World RX. A second Audi will be lined up for the Belgian Enzo Ide.
